HCD Launch a Project aimed at Strengthen Women’s Role in Mediation and Peacebuilding in the Horn of Africa
Based on the success of our learning session and webinar on women in mediation and peacebuilding processes on April 2025, HCD and Agency for Peacebuilding (AP) launched a new project aimed at strengthening women in mediation in the HoA. The Muslim Women Advancement of Rights and Protection (MWARP) based in Kenya is also our partner for this project.
Earlier in 2025, HCD and AP organized a learning session, a webinar on South Sudan and Sudan, featuring key experts and offering shared experiences and strategies related to women engagement in mediation and peacebuilding efforts in these conflict-affected countries. This session, which included expert-led discussions, highlighted the significant but often under-recognized contributions of women in peace processes. Now, building on this momentum, the new project, Promoting the participation of women in mediation processes in the HoA, aims to further amplify women’s voices and enhance their mediation capacities within ongoing and future peace processes across the region. The initiative is part of a broader effort to increase women’s active participation in peace negotiations, promoting the WPS agenda, and a critical aspect of sustainable peace and security in the region.
This project will be accompanied by a series of webinars, capacity building trainings and networking for women in mediation and peace processes and policy analysis on ongoing peace efforts in the region. The project will continue to engage women mediators from various countries in the HoA, provide expert-led insights, and explore successful local and regional mediation models. It marks a significant step forward in recognizing and strengthening the indispensable role of women in shaping the peace landscape and supporting the women mediators’ network in the region.
