The Horn Center for Democracy (HCD) joined the Agency for Peacebuilding (AP) and the Muslim Women Advancement of Rights and Protection (MWARP) for a training held in Mombasa, Kenya.

The two-day training brought together women mediators and peacebuilders from the Horn of Africa platform established in April 2025, for experience sharing, learning, and reflection. Participants who have served at mediation tables at all Track levels- shared their experiences, strategies, and key lessons. Discussions also focused on charting the way forward for the platform, including identifying spaces of influence and approaches for effective engagement. The platform mapped existing women’s mediation initiatives at the global, continental, and regional levels including withing IGAD, and reflected on entry points for engagement.

In her closing remarks, Yemisrach Kebede, HCD’s Programs and Partnerships Director, emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and strengthening solidarity among platform members to enhance collective impact. She also highlighted HCD’s ongoing efforts to convene regional webinars, including an upcoming session scheduled for April 1, aimed at promoting women’s participation in peacebuilding and mediation in the Horn of Africa and contributing to the advancement of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.

During the training, HCD engaged with AP and MWARP to reflect on existing partnerships and collaborations, and to explore opportunities for further engagement.
