Transitional Project Launch
The Horn Center for Democracy/HCD, through its Transitional Justice Consortia Ethiopia/TJC-E, has received a grant from GIZ’s Building Inclusive Institutions for Resilience, Reconciliation, and Reforms Program to implement the project “Making the Ethiopian Transitional Justice Process Accountable through Active Engagement of Oversight Actors”.
This project will be implemented in partnership with CECSOP and PAPDA, and HCD will focus on contributing to Outcome 3: Increased engagement of journalists and media organizations in transitional justice advocacy, monitoring, program preparation, and media coverage.
By strengthening media capacity, the program seeks to shape public discourse on transitional justice issues and to facilitate accurate, informed participation by journalists in Ethiopia’s transitional justice process.
Building on its established relationships with media organizations, HCD will facilitate the assignment of Transitional Justice Focal Journalists who are committed, receive mentoring on transitional justice issues, and are tasked with providing continuous coverage of Ethiopia’s transitional justice initiatives.
Ultimately, HCD’s intervention will create a pool of journalists dedicated to the successful implementation of the transitional justice process. These journalists will be sensitive to local, national, and regional contexts, responsive to victims’ needs, and attentive to all components of transitional justice, with particular emphasis on mental health and psychosocial concerns in their coverage of Ethiopia’s transitional justice process.
